Obsessed with Revlon’s Colorburst Lip Butter!

Colors 1

Ever since last summer, I’ve been obsessed with Revlon’s Colorburst Lip Butter! These moisturizing color lip balms are sheer but have just enough color to brighten your look. I love that they are shiny and are one of those lip products that you can put on without looking in a mirror (although I think you should!). To me, they are easy and fun. And at roughly $6.50 a pop, they’re an affordable indulgence. I purchased my last one at Target (here) but you can get them at anywhere Revlon products are sold.

Revlon promotes their lip butters as containing mango, shea and coconut butters so that they will boost lip moisture by 156%. I find them very hydrating and while they don’t last more than two hours or so for me, I don’t mind reapplying. For the price, they’re a great multitasking product (lip balm, lip color and I’ve even used them on my cheeks!).

In my experience, Revlon’s lip butters provide sheer color but a couple of the shades I have are pretty pigmented. I’ve swatched my collection so you can see how they work and look with lighter skin tones.

Pink Truffle
A neutral medium pink.

Tutti Frutti
A light coral that has slightly more pigment than some of the other colors when worn on the lips.

Peach Parfait
Light, sheer peach. Looks more pigmented in the tube than it is on the lips.

Juicy Papaya
Sheer coral/peach.

Fig Jam
Scary” brown in the tube but sheer on the lips. This one reminds me of Clinique’s Black Honey, which I absolutely love! A great neutral!

Candy Apple
Nicely pigmented warm red.

Red Velvet
Nicely pigmented cooler red. This is a great “starter red” if you like red but are not comfortable with bright, opaque red lip color.

Sorbet
One of the newer shades, this color is a bit more pigmented shade of reddish pink.

Spring Trend: Bright Lips!!!

Bright Lipsticks

One of my favorite trends for spring is bright lips. After a long, cold winter, there’s nothing better than a bright lipstick to light up my face and my mood!

More brights
From vivid opaque formulas to colored lip balms, there’s something for everyone. I tend to like pinks and corals rather than the bright yellows and purples I’ve seen in the stores. Here are some of my favorites:

Pinks

From left: OCC Cosmetics Pageant; Revlon Lip Butter in Sorbet; Maybelline Vivids in Pink Pop; OCC Cosmetics in Narcissus; Make Up Forever Rouge Artist Natural in N31; Maybelline Vivids in Vivid Rose; L’Oreal Colour Caresse in Velvety Fuchsia

corals

From left: OCC Trollop; OCC Queen; Mac Impassioned; Maybelline Vivids in Shocking Coral; Revlon Lip butter in Wild Watermelon

When wearing brighter shades, I like to use a lip pencil, either one that matches the lipstick (line your lips and fill in the entire lip with the lip pencil and THEN put on the lipstick) or one of the newer “clear” ones from Make Up For Ever or Sally Hansen that keeps the lipstick from feathering. If using the clear lip pencils, just outline the lips with the pencil and then fill in with the lipstick.

How about you? Are you wearing bright lip colors this Spring?

Product Review: Physicians Formula Se*y Booster Se*y Glow Glossy Stain

Physicians Formula has done it again with the release of their Se*y Booster Se*y Glow Glossy Stain. In my last post, I mentioned how  their Se*y Booster Blush caught my eye, with it's ultra cute packaging, yummy scent and subtle glow. Does the Glossy Stain please me as much as the blush did? Face of the Day: Drugstore Brands

I've been working for the last few days to get back on track after being away for over a week. Today was the first day that I actually took the time to put on makeup so I thought it would be a good time to do a Face of the Day (FOTD) post.

Every item I used today is from the drugstore. Just about every item I used has not been reviewed yet so you can look forward for more reviews of some quality drugstore products. Click below to see what makes up this look!

Product Review: Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick

I am always looking for good, long wearing lip colors that don't dry the lips. In my real life, I travel a lot for work and attend day long meetings on a regular basis. One thing I hate is to come out of a meeting with a ring of lip color around my lips because the "long wearing" lip color has worn off much sooner that it should have.

Enter Hourglass's Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick. I've worn this quite a bit lately, while in my home office as well as on the road. How did it hold up? Click below to find out!

Face of the Day: A Simple, Chic look

I'm a big fan of Lisa Eldridge, a famous celebrity makeup artist from the UK. Not too long ago, she did a You Tube tutorial on a makeup look she called "Flawless and Chic," available here.

It's a look that can be worn during the day or for an evening out and I've worn it many times. Click below to get the details and the products I used.

Product Review: Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tars: Pinks

Super long lasting lip color!!!

Lip tars from left:  Digitalis, Narcissus, Pageant, Ophelia, Memento

Last summer, I started reading all about Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (O.C.C.) and their incredible lip colors. Since one of my pet peeves is lipstick that disappears quickly, I thought I should check these out. At the time, I was on a quest for a long lasting red lipstick as nothing I already had lasted more than an hour or two at the most. Enter O.C.C. lip tars!

My first lip tar was their aptly name red, NSFW, a bright, beautiful red. Depending on what I was doing (drinking, talking, eating or just  quietly going about my day), this color lasted anywhere between 4 and 9 hours on my lips. No lie!!! As a result, I HAD to have more, therefore, I went out and stocked up on a bunch of colors and thus, the first of my blog reviews for O.C.C. lip tars. This review will focus on the pinks in my collection. These are, by no means, all of the pinks that O.C.C. has released, but just the ones that I have purchased.
