Summer 2013 Trend: Bright Nails

Essie and CoverGirl 1

Bright nails are a HUGE trend for summer and I am all over this trend! For the past couple of months I’ve been scouring the shelves of my local Target and CVS on the lookout for new colors. I also joined Julep’s Maven program (more info to come in a later post) and am looking forward to even more new colors. If you’re a nail polish junkie, it’s impossible to not be excited about all the possibilities!

It’s really amazing that drugstores these days have such high quality polishes. Back in the day, when I had to walk three miles up a hill in the snow in sub zero weather to get to a department store to buy quality polish….I digress. Anyway, brands like Cover Girl and L’Oreal have long lasting, beautifully smooth polishes available and Essie is now making many of their colors available at Target, of all places, for $7.99! I’ve died and gone to heaven! Whether you color your fingers, your toes or both, there’s something available for everyone. Here are some of my favorites.

Face of the Day: Spring is Here!!!

Spring is here and I've been testing out all kinds of products! After spending two weeks in Florida, I thought it was time to break out my Spring clothing, even though the weather here in Virginia hasn't been exactly Spring-like. As part of that, it seemed like a good time to try on a lighter, brighter makeup.

Some of these products have been reviewed but most haven't and I'll be posting reviews of them over the next few days. Here's a list of what I'm wearing:

  • Almay Smart Shade Mousse Makeup in Light
  • It Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye in Light
  • CoverGirl Lash Blast Volume (the orange tube) Mascara
  • Wet & Wild Eyeshadow in Petal Pusher
  • Cailyn Line-Fixx Gel Eyeliner in Black
  • Manna Kador Blush in High Five
  • Nars Light Reflecting Setting Powder
  • Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Pink Freeze (805)

What makeup looks are you wearing this Spring?

Product Review: CoverGirl Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Polish

I've recently been on a quest to find nail polish that will last longer than a day on my non-cooperative fingernails. Other than polish over a set of acrylics (hellooooo 1999!) and shellac/gel polish, most polish begins chipping the first day I apply it. Now, I'm pretty tough on my nails but isn't that a bit much? Shouldn't one get at least two days of satisfaction?

While perusing the aisles at CVS the other day, I spied a display of CoverGirl Outlast Nail Polish. I'd honestly never noticed this before but I thought, "Hey...it's got "outlast" in the title. Maybe this is it!!!"  So I bought a few and tried them out...

Face of the Day: Drugstore Brands

I've been working for the last few days to get back on track after being away for over a week. Today was the first day that I actually took the time to put on makeup so I thought it would be a good time to do a Face of the Day (FOTD) post.

Every item I used today is from the drugstore. Just about every item I used has not been reviewed yet so you can look forward for more reviews of some quality drugstore products. Click below to see what makes up this look!

Product Review: CoverGirl + Olay Concealer Balm

I just returned back from a seven day Caribbean cruise and have a lot to write about! Over the next few days, I'll be posting some thoughts on my adventures as well as the beauty products, clothes and organization items that I took with me. For now, though, let's get on with a product review!

CoverGirl recently released its CoverGirl + Olay Concealer Balm as "an emollient-rich concealer balm for radiant skin" as a new offering in its collection. Want to know what I think about it? Click below!

Product Showdown: Covergirl Lashblast Fusion vs. Mac Zoom Waterfast Lash

Covergirl Lashblast Fusion vs. Mac Zoom Waterfast Lash Mascara

Welcome to my first Drugstore/High End Product Showdown! In this post, I'm reviewing two popular water resistant mascaras.

I have a love/hate relationship with most mascaras because more often than not, I end up with flaking or raccoon eyes even when a mascara is touted as being "waterproof." For years, I used L'Oreal's Voluminous Mascara with great success (and not even the waterproof version of it) and sometime last Spring, as I replaced an empty tube, the unthinkable happened---smudges, flakes and overall nastiness. Practically heartbroken, I thought, "Well, I'll just try a 'waterproof' version of this mascara." Nope, nada, non! Then I reached for their "Million Lashes" waterproof in the gold tube. Smudge City. Thus began my quest for the perfect mascara.
